Togami Again: Ochsenhausen Hand Bremen Their First Defeat

Led once more by match-winner Shunsuke Togami, TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen handed previously unbeaten SV Werder Bremen their first loss of the season with a 3:1 victory. The Japanese star won both of his singles again, firmly establishing himself as the new leader of the defending champions.

Having already delivered Ochsenhausen’s first win of the season against Grenzau with two singles victories, Togami put his team ahead on Friday evening right from the start. In just his second Bundesliga match of the season, he beat Irvin Bertrand 3:1, handing the Frenchman his first defeat of the campaign. Kirill Gerassimenko briefly leveled the tie for Bremen before the break with a commanding 3:1 win over Tiago Abiodun, but from then on, the hosts took control.

Chirita impresses with strong performance

Iulian Chirita shone with a convincing 3:0 win over former World Championship finalist Mattias Falck, improving his personal record to four wins and two losses. “I’ve never played against Mattias before, but I could discuss tactics with Bogdan. I hope I can face him again on Sunday,” explained Chirita about his win over the Swede and his tricky short-pimple forehand. Togami then sealed the result, defeating Gerassimenko 3:1 to claim his second double victory in a row.

Ochsenhausen climbed out of the relegation zone with their second straight win, moving up to eighth place. Bremen, despite their first loss of the season, remain second in the standings behind Bergneustadt. “We played against stronger opponents today. Shunsuke was very strong, and Chirita played really well against Mattias,” said Bertrand, before looking ahead: “On Sunday we have to try to do better.” The two clubs will meet again in just two days – this time in the German Cup round of 16.
