Joint statement by the DTTB, the TTBL, and representatives of the second- and third-division clubs

The announcement released in early June regarding the introduction of the new “Pokal Grand Opening” format for men’s teams (August 29 and 30, Kia Metropol Arena in Nuremberg) has raised questions and caused confusion among many clubs in the 2nd and 3rd Bundesliga. Against this backdrop, representatives of the second- and third-division clubs, as well as the German Table Tennis Federation and Tischtennis Bundesliga GmbH, have sought dialogue in recent days.

In an open and constructive exchange, they discussed in detail the various perspectives and interests surrounding the cup competition. All parties share the common goal of further developing the German Table Tennis Cup to make it more attractive from a sporting perspective while appropriately taking into account the interests of all participating clubs.

Further discussions planned after the premiere

There is a willingness on all sides to continue the dialogue and to jointly consider possible ways to further develop the competition. The parties involved have agreed to jointly evaluate the experiences from the premiere of the Cup Grand Opening and subsequently to flesh out the approaches and proposals already discussed for the further development of the competition.

All parties agree that the clubs in the 2nd and 3rd Bundesliga play an important role in German team sports and the development of the cup competition, and that they should be more closely involved in relevant discussions and planning in the future.
