Feng leads Grenzau to second win of the season

At the end of match day #5 of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau secured its second victory of the season. Led by Feng Yi-Hsin, the Westerwald team prevailed 3:2 against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Tuesday evening.

TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau had to wait a good five weeks, but on Tuesday their little dry spell finally came to an end: with a 3:2 victory over TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt at the end of the fifth match day of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), coach Slobodan Grujic's team secured their second victory of the season and improved their points tally to 4:6. At the start of the season at the end of August, Grenzau had beaten TSV Bad Königshofen (3:1). For Bergneustadt, on the other hand, it was their second defeat of the season; the Schwalben are now on 6:4 points, along with five other teams.

“It was a team effort, everyone contributed something. I am very happy that we won today,” said Grenzau's Maciej Kubik after the match on the Dyn microphone. “I am satisfied with my two singles matches overall – I won one clearly and lost one clearly.”

Feng Yi-Hsin celebrates in singles and doubles

The match winner for Grenzau was Feng Yi-Hsin, who triumphed in both singles and doubles. The 22-year-old had most recently won 3-0 against Benedikt Duda at the WTT China Smash, but there was no repeat of that duel on Tuesday. Feng faced Romain Ruiz in the singles and kept his nerve against the Frenchman. After taking a 2-0 lead in sets, the match went to a fifth set, where Feng finally converted his third match point to win 3-2. Maciej Kubik also won the opening singles match for Grenzau, beating Leo de Nodrest 3-0. The other two singles went to Bergneustadt: Duda first beat Martin Allegro 3-0, then Kubik by the same score.

Feng then made his second appearance in the doubles, and once again the Taiwanese player had reason to celebrate, this time together with Allegro. The Grenzau doubles pair beat de Nodrest and Adrien Rassenfosse 3-0. A time-out proved decisive: after leading 8-3 in the second set, Bergneustadt fought back to within one point, but after the short break, Feng and Allegro were back in control, winning three set points and ultimately the set. A few minutes later, the match was decided.

The Table Tennis Bundesliga continues with the sixth match day, which starts on October 24 with the match between TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and TTC OE Clarity-Telefonie Systeme Bad Homburg. All TTBL matches are broadcast live on Dyn.
